Staff & Safety
It takes a special person to be a counselor for our campers, your kids. Camp Counselors have to be energetic, enthusiastic, fun—but also trained to respond quickly and efficiently in any situation. Your child’s safety is our number one priority.

Key Safety Guidelines

  • All staff members will receive First Aid and CPR certification from The American Red Cross.
  • Staff are trained for emergency procedures at each camp location.
  • The swim trips are staffed by full-time life  guard staff beside our summer camp staff.
  • There will be a 1:8 counselor to child ratio at minimum, at all times. The names of the campers will be kept on staff at all times and “check-ins” will be required between each activity.
  • When taking a field trip, the vehicle will be operated by either a camp counselor with The Salvation Army Decisive Driving Certification, or a licensed local transportation company.
  • Camp staff will be equipped with walkie talkies and first aid kits, as well as all emergency information needed for each participant.
  • A first aid kit and a list of medications and allergies will be on camp staff at all times. Emergency contact information will remain on staff no matter the activity, and cell phones will be allotted to multiple staff members for emergency purposes and to remain in contact with the Camp Manager.

Camper Code Of Conduct

  1. Campers must stay with their age group and be accompanied by a counselor during all camp activities.
  2. Campers must remain with camp staff members at all times unless checked-out by an authorized adult with photo I.D.
  3. Camp attendees are expected to respect peers, The Kroc Center staff and the facility at all times.

Student Expectations
We are in a highly diverse neighborhood, we recognize all the backgrounds we serve do not speak English. Although we wish we had staff whom spoke all the languages of our community, we currently only speak English and Spanish. For the safety of the children and to avoid miscommunication, we cannot accept students who do not understand and speak English or Spanish.

  1. Be present during all hours of programming.
No cellphones will be allowed, students would have slept well to be able to interact with their peers and staff.
  2. Treat themselves, their peers, and staff with respect.
Listening to staff at all times will prevent accidents from happening and will prevent disciplinary action, including but not limited to loss of Friday field trips, or removal from the program. Being respectful of peers, including of their culture, name, personality, and belongings.
  3. Attend 3 of the 4 days of programming in order to be eligible to attend the field trip.
We have exciting games, activities, and outings planned for Fridays. Field Trips are a privilege, a luxury, and take lots of planning ahead of time for students because we want them to have fun. Academics, enrichment, and clubs are just as important, therefore, only those students who attend 3 of the 4 days will be able to enjoy the field trips.
  4. Follow all rules and expectations at all times.
One week or an entire summer goes by quickly. We want to serve all the students whom want to enjoy themselves, explore, play, learn, and discover. We expect our rules presented to students to be followed. Students will receive three warnings on a given day and will sit out from clubs, instead they will help our community by helping plan activities or do extra packets of academic work. After three days in one week they will not be allowed back into the program the rest of the week.
  5. Students will have fun for rewards.
At the end of the summer we will have special rewards for those who best behaved, for those with perfect attendance, perhaps for those whom were exemplary or improved in understanding for a specific area of our program. Maybe for those students who discovered they like painting and did not know it! We want to celebrate students who were able to have fun, while following all expectations previously mentioned!
